Its base, partly sunken into the ground, houses the technical systems that supply heating to the town’s homes, as well as the vehicles for the town’s technical department.
Above, the upper floor accommodates the office spaces, entirely built from locally sourced whole timber. A strong contrast to the solid base, this level emphasises lightness, material honesty, and a direct link to the landscape.
The roof is the project’s defining feature: a doubly curved timber vault made of two interlocking wooden surfaces, supported only by the peripheral walls. Despite its complex geometry, it is built using simple cuts, allowing local carpenters to realize the structure using traditional techniques. This is made possible by a precisely scripted digital model, ensuring accuracy while preserving a handcrafted spirit.
Romain Fassotte’s role, within Yves Weinand’s team, is to develop and optimize the building from an architectural point of view, with a main focus on the structural and aesthetic aspects. Major challenges have been the complete redesign of the roof structural system and the automated generation of the production files for the roof timber elements.
