It’s all about making connections.

The safety net constitutes an intermediate layer linking the existing and the anticipated, the absent and the required, strictly speaking, between the former industrial site Neischmelz of the past and the imaginary landscape of the future.

Three cerebral, yet perceptible strata superpose each other. First the industrial ground which lacks in vegetation. Second the black net, elevating people to a middle dimension. Third, our fictitious landscape composed with artificial trees.

Being referential to the food stands orbiting Kantina, each tree displays one main ingredient of Luxembourg’s most traditional dish, the Bouneschlupp. Our potatoes, carrots and beans are rescued food, and will later be used for cooking the mythical soup. We’ll build up, take apart and eat all together.
In an effort to produce as much flat space in the net structure as possible, the placement of the four scaffolding towers was
calculated by an algorithm - just as its computational form finding, the entire installation too represents an artificial nature itself.
In consequence, the artistic process is revealed and translated physically.

By enabling interaction, amusement and rest this central installation perhaps fulfills more than only vital functions of a canteen.

Text by Philippe Hoffmann, who artistically co-produced the intallation.
